YOUR HAIR CARE ROUTINE FOR OILY HAIR

Does your hair get greasy easily? Sometimes even in the space of a day? We hear you and we’re here for you! Oily hair is something that many people suffer with, but with the right products and treatments in your hair care line up, you can say goodbye to oily locks and hello to happy hair that’s on the right side of shiny!

Let’s start with the basics: it’s not your hair that’s oily, it’s your scalp, and greasiness is caused by a mix of your scalp’s natural oil production and a build up of debris - think pollution, dirt, scalp flakes and all that lovely sorta stuff!

There are several reasons why your scalp might be oilier than other people’s. Your stress levels, diet, genetic make up and hair care routine are all contributors, and while all hair types are susceptible to oiliness, it’s more visible on finer hair. Some of these factors are naturally easier to control than others, and what better place to start than your hair care routine.

With that in mind, Cult Concierge expert Grace has outlined her recommended hair care routine for oily hair, including products and treatments specifically designed to control sebum production and refresh lank locks. So without further ado…

1. START WITH A PRE-WASH OILY SCALP TREATMENT

If your hair is stubbornly oily, then help is at hand in the form of The INKEY List’s Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Scalp Treatment. This pre-wash serum calls upon 2% salicylic acid, FluidPure 8G and panthenol to eliminate build-up and grime while gently eradicating flakes and soothing stressed-out scalps. Use this oily scalp treatment once or twice a week before washing your hair to swiftly reestablish equilibrium.

2. WASH OIL WAY WITH AN ULTRA-REFRESHING SHAMPOO

Specially formulated with city living in mind, Larry King Hair Care’s City Life Shampoo is a deeply refreshing formula that quells the effects of hard water and pollution. This detoxifying shampoo}is a must-have for oily hair. It’s saturated with ultra-nourishing vitamin E and gentle zinc PCA to control your scalp’s oil production, plus antibacterial centella asiatica extract that works to remove build-up and give your hair a new lease of life!

3. FOLLOW WITH CONDITIONER

When choosing a conditioner for oily hair, the key is to look for a lightweight formula that won’t make your hair straggly or greasy. Allow us to introduce you to Gisou’s Honey Infused Conditioner! Their weightless yet incredibly nourishing formula leaves hair soft and manageable without weighing it down or contributing to your personal oil crisis.

VERY IMPORTANT: Apply the conditioner from mid-lengths to ends only, avoiding roots to prevent greasiness.

4. RESUSCITATE HAIR WITH A MASK

A mask for those who ‘don’t do’ masks, Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day (PhD) Weightless Mask won’t leave hair looking lank, no ma’am! It’s been specifically created with a cocktail of lightweight yet supercharged ingredients to resuscitate dull and lifeless lengths, with no heavy build-up to dampen your oomph. Use once or twice a week in place of your conditioner for shiny, soft and manageable hair.

5. TREAT YOUR TRESSES TO A LEAVE-IN TREATMENT

Give your hair a little extra TLC with Davines OI All in One Milk. This does-everything conditioning treatment is brimming with ultra-hydrating provitamin B5 and helps to protect your hair against the sun and other daily stresses. It’s a lightweight treatment that hydrates the hair without it feeling too heavy or leaving any residue, so it’s the ideal treatment if you want extra hydration without extra oiliness.

6. REFRESH WITH A LEAVE-IN OILY SCALP TREATMENT

Treatment-meets-dry-shampoo (as you’ve never seen it before), Omorovicza’s Scalp Reviver is an innovative leave-in treatment for oily scalps that helps to equalise imbalance and restore some ‘oomph’. It features a complex blend of amino acids, natural emollients and humectants, alongside salicylic acid, camphor and the scalp-stimulating oils of lavender and lemon peel. This is a saviour for oily hair and irritated heads! Apply to any flaky, itchy areas and massage in with your fingertips to calm your scalp and refresh between washes.
