METAVERSE MAKE UP IS ABOUT TO TAKE OFF

It’s official, 2023 is over. And, whether you’re celebrating with a night on the town (sequins = mandatory) or having a quiet night watching the fireworks on TV (fluffy pyjamas = mandatory), it's likely at some point or another you’ll be reflecting on the year that’s passed and the year ahead.

So, what has 2024 got in store for us all? The answer is... a lot! From April’s solar eclipse to the Summer Olympics in Paris and NASA’s November moon mission (which will see the first US crew sent there in 52 years), there’s plenty on the world’s proverbial plate. And the same can certainly be said for the beauty world, too.

Ombre lips, feathered brows and glossed-out everything are just some of the beauty trends that experts (read: TikTokers) think we’ll see in 2024, and one prediction in particular that’s caught our eye is metaverse make up.

Before the trend truly takes off (like NASA’s moon mission), here’s everything you need to know about metaverse make up...

FIRST THINGS FIRST, WHAT ACTUALLY IS THE METAVERSE?

Perhaps the easiest way to define the metaverse is to think of it as an immersive online world made up of digital spaces. In the metaverse you can move seamlessly between these digital spaces, connecting with friends, creating and playing games, working and shopping. You can access the metaverse on different devices, like your phone or computer, as well as virtual reality devices which offer a fully immersive experience.

NOW WE’VE GOT THAT COVERED... WHAT IS METAVERSE MAKE UP?

Much like the tech-forward, otherworldly nature of the metaverse, metaverse make up takes a cue from futuristic technology and will see us aiming for a hi-tech, outer-space aesthetic. Think: otherworldly hues, purple eye palettes, metallic finishes, glossy lips and lashings of highlighter pretty much everywhere.

Need some metaverse make up inspiration? A quick scroll through Instagram and TikTok is just the ticket. Take make up artist and influencer Frankie Darling, for example, who seemingly raided Charlotte Tilbury’s very own beauty collection to create two truly metaverse worthy looks, opting for a cool, purple hued aesthetic in one and a futuristic silvery-red fusion in another.

Fellow make up artist and content creator Nikki Wolff also knows how to nail the metaverse trend. In one of her most recent Instagram shots, Nikki uses pink and purple tones to contour the face then adds sweeping graphic liner and navy eyeshadow to carve out the lids, finishing with a sprinkle of highlighter across the nose and collarbones. As one Instagrammer commented: “It's the pink jawline for me.”

Danessa Myricks is another icon leading the way when it comes to metaverse make up. With the help of MUA Olga Solovey and using a selection of must-haves — more on those in a minute! — from her namesake make up line, Danessa achieved thishypnotic look on model Alexis Warnick.

HOW TO DO METAVERSE MAKE UP

If, like us, you’re sold on the idea that metaverse make up is a trend to watch (and create) in 2024, these are the essentials we’d suggest adding to your basket,pronto...

METAVERSE MAKE UP: COMPLEXION
