Locks looking and feeling frazzled or dry ? Wish there was something you could do to bring your strands back to life? What if we told you there’s a hair care recipe to rival a popular aesthetic skin treatment.

Cue: hair botox.

Utilising the same concept facial botox uses – AKA smoothing, ironing and polishing the look of your complexion, hair botox does the same thing for your lengths... Without the need for needles.

From what hair botox is to the best hair botox treatments you can do at home, get your detangling brushes ready as we give you a serious Cult Beauty hair care lesson...

WHAT IS HAIR BOTOX

Usually an in-salon treatment, hair botox uses good-for-strands ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, pracaxi oil, shea butter, collagen and keratin to deeply restore your hair's hydration levels. Although called ‘hair botox’, the treatment isn’t injected into your scalp or hair, but rather uses the concept of ‘filling in’ your dry tresses to seal in split ends and reduce flyaways. Working to strengthen strands and leave them feeling silky smooth, hair botox is the ultimate solution for a more manageable mane when styling.

HOW LONG DOES HAIR BOTOX LAST

Depending on your hair type, how often you wash it and, of course, how damaged your hair is, hair botox can last anywhere between three to six months.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAIR BOTOX

  1. Boosts Hydration: working on the internal and external structures of your strands, hair botox delivers a heavy dose of nourishment to your hair follicles and locks in your mane’s much-needed moisture...
  2. Smooths unruly strands: unlike a chemical straightening treatment, hair botox is powered by a blend of good-for-hair ingredients that leave your locks looking sleek and shiny, revealing a glass hair finish.
  3. A customisable treatment: whether you’re a 4C or 1A, hair botox works on all tress types *and* can be totally customisable to you. For example, you can  make the treatment gentler and give your strands movement and volume *or* make it more intense for a straight sign off.

HAIR BOTOX FAQs

Is hair botox damaging to hair?

No. The hair botox treatment used in-salon is formulated with a range of good-for-strand ingredients including keratin, collagen, vitamins and minerals. This isn’t a chemical hair treatment, so there are no known risks to your lengths.

Is hair botox better than keratin?

This depends on what you want from your treatment. Hair botox is used to smooth flyaways, make your mane more manageable and leave strands feeling silky soft. A keratin treatment on the other hand often contains formaldehyde (or something similar) to straighten strands. It’s usually used to achieve sleek, straight hair and can sometimes cause irritation.

Does hair botox make hair straight?

Not necessarily. Hair botox’s main aim is to make strands softer, smoother and shinier. Although a hot tool is required to activate the treatment, it’s not like a Brazilian blow dry or keratin treatment where your hair is chemically straightened for months at a time. However, because it works to improve the health of your hair (and therefore make it look smoother) you may notice your hair does look straighter if you have wavy or slightly curly locks.

Now you know what the secret to soft, silky-smooth strands are, it's time to revamp your Sunday night ritual...and enjoy salon-worthy treatments from home!
