HERMÈS HISTORY

Founded in 1873 by leather craftsman Thierry Hermès, Hermès initially produced high-quality harnesses and bridles for horse carriages – exclusively for European noblemen. In 1880, the company was then run by Thierry’s son Charles-Émile, who opened the brand’s first retail store in Paris— expanding its leather offerings to everyone. By the 20th Century, the brand began producing leather handbags and in 1920 was awarded the exclusive use of metal zippers in France, quickly making it a staple of luxury. In 1937, Hermès delved into fashion and designed the ultimate status symbols of the country — we’re talking everything from the 'Carré' silk scarf to the iconic Kelly handbag. In 2020, the brand launched its first foray into colour cosmetics with the Rouge Hermès lipsticks and continues to formulate innovative must-haves that combine its rich heritage with high-quality ingredients.
