The result of six years of painstaking research, Bésame Cosmetics’ Decades of Fragrance collection evokes the ‘essence’ of the ages – from the playful decadence of the 1920s to the elegant sophistication of the ‘50s ‘new look’ – these scents are olfactory time capsules; chic (and convenient) vials of precious perfume that encourage you to channel the fabulous flappers, film’s femme fatales of the doe-eyed bombshells of the 1960s. Just choose the ‘spirit’ of your favourite age, or mix and match to suit your mood (and outfit).
Alluring, seductive and wonderfully transgressive, Bésame’s ‘1940’ opens with a boozey burst of bergamot, davana and cognac – think: underground New York jazz bar in its hazy, smoky glory – balanced by a floral, feminine heart of rose, clove and exotic labdanum. Resinous base notes of sandalwood, amber and benzoin then add to its mystique; creating a well-rounded scent that defies ‘neat’ categorisation. Meticulously researched and crafted from precious, essential oils and natural alcohol, this convenient rollerball can be carried in even the most compact clutch bag – perfect for on-the-go touch-ups.

Not for me, but may suit you better
I first sniffed this at a fair along with some of the other decades' scents, and liked it well enough as far as I can remember. On purchasing and trying on my skin though it's a different story - I found it to be terribly cloying, with a sickly sweet note to it. I couldn't understand why I disliked it so much but then finally realised that it smells very much like Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male. So, if that scent turns you off, then perhaps avoid this one. Otherwise, you may be lucky and find it smells fantastic on you. Agent Carter wears it so it must be good.

Delighted!
I am notoriously fussy with perfumes and have only ever liked a small handful in my lifetime. Most modern perfumes are sickly sweet or just so over the top they give me a headache & nausea! So I was a little nervous to order this without sniffing first, but read all the reviews I could get my hands on...and I just loved it instantly! Soft, I definitely get the tobacco & cognac smells but beautifully done. Sexy, smouldery...feels very unique & special. Looking forward to trying 1930's next :)

Incredible & transgressive
It's as if you walked in a NYC underground, tobacco - soaked jazz club. Incredible atmosphere. It's such an unique scent, thoroughly androgynous in such an approachable way. The top notes remind me very much of Thierry Mugler's Angel, but it's more zesty and refreshing in the middle. I absolutely love it and I wish I could get my hands on the large bottle.
